Near as I can tell it's over. The American Dream, that is. Kaput. Finito. Done.
It wasn't the absolutely disgusting machinations of Congress that made me see this, although that certainly tipped me in this direction.
It wasn't hearing the names of Congress persons who belong to "The Family", disturbing as that was.
It was having a friend, a co-worker, healthy and young, buying a house with her husband, get a very expensive, terminal-if-not-treated disease....and seeing that, even with health insurance, they can no longer afford their mortgage payment....by the time she's back at work, earning her share of the family income, it'll be too late for the house....
And in my line of work, I know that my friend is one of thousands...tens of thousands perhaps.... And worse! I know that if the exact same thing happened to me, neither could I afford my house for long......
I call it Social Insecurity.
That's what Congress has given me.....and you, and my friend, and all those others, too. Social Insecurity.
We probably shouldn't complain...it's not quite as insecure as the citizens of Tiajuana must feel...not as bad as Bagdad or Kabul.....or the Congo.....or.....well anyway....we're better off than somebody....but I couldn't call it the American Dream anymore.
