Writer's Block

I think I am officially speechless. Could it be that I've said everything I have to say so soon? Perhaps.

Life goes on, doesn't it. One gets interested in other things....one wishes to think about more upbeat topics.

Like gardening. Gosh what a great spring it's been....I've got flowers blooming, grass growing, weeds whooping it up all over my yard. Had a kid graduate from school, another got engaged, one dropped in for a visit...friends coming and going on their ways to wherever...

And I've been working on yet another in my personal life series of entrepreneurial endeavors...reading a great book called The E-Myth revisited(Michael E. Gerber) about how to build a successful business. Very inspiring.

I've also been reading The Time Travelers Wife (Audrey Niffenegger - wow, that's a mouthful!)which someone left at my house...a puzzling tale so far...about some guy always running into himself.

And I just can't develop any enthusiasm for writing about the madhouse...which seems an irritation center, a vortex of unfortunate circumstances, swirling...swirling...

...So much more pleasant to admire my new dahlia...

I'll write again as soon as I get aggravated enough. Meanwhile, anybody reading anything especially good? Please advise.

OK, I agree, we really should consider some other especially lovely things in our lives, and pass along those that we can. I think, maybe I've got something to pass along that is encouraging, and especially so, since it does involve a person who works at the
madhouse. One of the supervisors came along, doing this and that, observing us and just being there in case something was needed, and I'm betting that when the supervisors walk onto the units, most nurses, in particular, get out their wish lists. Not the kind that has a gem or new car at the top, but one that probably has a pharmacy run, better staffing, solution to Pera's troubles and chocolate in the top ten. This individual was putting up
a pretty good front, considering the troubles that usually plague the nut-o-rama on a holiday weekend. I doubt recent shifts were cake for this individual. Anyway, the point being, before getting along, a comment was made along the lines of, "Just so you know, I let your big kahuna know that you all did a fine job this weekend, and thought you should know." That simple expression of appreciation, at the end of the holiday weekend, was NICE! Another individual, who no longer works with us, typically did cool things like this. It feels good. So although this isn't as pretty as a dahlia, maybe it's a new sprig of green grass, a sign, that will grow to be as big as a lawn with all that potential. And if not, keep in mind, that the dahlias are gorgeous, even more so, if you are viewing them with a bowl of strawberry short cake in our hand.

One of the admission teams just lost an exceptional MHC. He has chosen to work under stary skies. The loss will become noticable, soon, I believe. Hopefully those folks who would rather be busy other places, than be around the action, are up on how to do what is needed in the hands on department. Gonna be some bumps and bruises, to themselves and others, if they don't have some experienced, proactive MHC's on shift. Did I hear correctly? Did those who usually talk and walk, rather than interact with patients, really go help out on the assaultive unit recently? WOW, what a precident to set. Will they now come help out other units who routinely work short staffed, will they sit as an observer on their own units for S&R, will they do a round or two in the milieu, rather than a round or two of answering phones, will they be out with the clients doing what they think others should be doing, on a daily basis. I'm thinking this is hope just waiting to be tapped into. Maybe now milieu folks can have a nice lunch, not in the milieu, and clients can see that their SW's really do have more than just them as a concern, and management types can send a regular joe, to an occasional inservice, meeting, so that administrative types can get the real low-down. Tell me, do ya see the potential. Hopefully, serious injury doesn't need to happen on other units to get this hope to shine.
