Man Oh Man...I just hate to see our Main Mental Health Worker go!!
A guy who'd been here over 30 years retired last week. Well deserved. He couldn't, after all, just stay forever. But there's something so final about it; I can't imagine the place without him. It makes me feel kind of scared.
Which is funny, if you know him, since there was no one better at scaring you when he was here...under his tutelage I feared asteriod collisions, solar explosions, alien invasions and other catestrophic disasters on a fairly regular basis. But in the enchanted castle, I fear his absence more than any of those things.
Come back! Come back!!
No, of course, I don't really wish him back....I really wish him a peaceful, creative, engaged retirement...and I'm sure he'll have it. It's that "what goes around, comes around" principle...he's been very good to co-workers and patients here and the world will treat him right out there.
In the new world of psychiatric care, it's the nurses and doctors who run the show. It used to be different. There was a time when "multi-disciplinary team" actually meant that all the members of the team had equal importance in the treatment of patients. In those days, the mental health worker, as the professional who had spent the most time with the patient on a day-to-day basis, was consulted about the patient's response to treatment interventions, and asked for treatment suggestions; now not many of them even are told what medications the patient is on, never mind asked how the patient has responded to them, or what might be better. And medication is the only treatment most patients get.
Ah, but mental illness is a biological matter, right? No need for the mental health clinician, trained to understand the dynamics of personality. Irrelevant, time consuming, difficult to measure. And besides, they have degrees and are expensive.
Not as expensive as nurses, though.
More than psyc techs, however.
Anyhooo...we're all about to see what difference a good mental health clinician makes...as we experience the retirees absence. Thanks! Mr. Retiree...you've been great to work with. You made us all feel safe, you got us interested in things, you created an atmosphere of affection and caring, you knew what to do when nobody else did. Enjoy yourself and keep in touch....
How 'bout a little "blog" ?

Yes we will all miss Our Mr. Doom and Gloom.... But I have heard he may return a few days a week to keep things interesting.... I have to disagree with you about the nurses running the place it is the social workers who have been running it for along time with this program for this client and that program for that client... Nope not the nurses or the MHC's the social workers...
I agree!!. Social workers dictate what a nurse will do on the treatment plans. Nurses are little more than "pill pushers". What ever happened to NANDA nursing diagnosis??? Seen one of them lately??
Ive read this and sense so much frustration with alot of the MadHouse I know in this day and age its hard not to be streched in any job. But the key word is "JOB" the word may seem frustrating and iritating but It is a blessing to have a JOB and to have one that doesnt break your body apart doesnt stretch the limits on your body to where you hurt from doing JOBS that continue to injure you and you dont have that State ability to file for Comp with out being let go and frowned on from any other positions. You are a State Employee who has certain rights the average employee out there does not have. The non state jobs can let you go for anything You choose this profession and it sounds like many of you have alot of heart in it and I comend you but please remember why you took the proffesion you did to begin with. I thank you for being there every day but realize that every level to managment has issues you may not understand unless you are in there shoes. Remember every day is a gift and some of the people you deal with dont get that gift to enjoy life like you do and some enjoy life because of what you do.
How strange to feel both sadness and happiness at his departure. I shall miss him dearly and carry him always in my heart. Another fount of knowledge departs. I wish you well my friend on your new journey.
But back to business...Much has transpired since last I visited.
An ignorant manager loses staff and patient information without remorse or accountability. Makes you wonder what would have happened if one of us had done that, doesn't it?
Forums continuing to be held without any real input or attendance by those in need. My, my, my I even heard that each one of us is responsible for our own morale. Where is the problem solving to insure that those who need to attend can do so ?
We should be happy to have our jobs. Now where have I heard that before? From herr direktor perhaps? Clinical management? Other administrators? Lackeys?
We have rights. Now there's a newsflash. Yes, we do; and management seems to ignore those at will. Do you know what your rights are in any given situation? Do you even care?
If I truly have the ability to improve my morale within the madhouse walls then I choose to have all who spout such sentiments to immediately terminate...at least their employment here. That will vastly improve my morale.
Can you see it? Can you feel it?
Shine the light!
Don't need no more lies !!!!!! It was great to hear CSNY sing this and so many other ballads live recently.Do you suppose that administration expects those of us who are "line staff" to barely have the energy to do our basic job much less take the time and energy do fight all the various political battles ?!Folks who do go the extra mile, such as our OPENLY defiant one are heros.Of course "compliance" is so revered;look at what we do with our pts. and the labels they get when they don't cooperate.
PLEASE don't tell me that our race card beneficiary who had such an incredibly, insanely bad attendance and had to go to his truck often during work, along with our managerial darling RN who made such an arrogant and stupid decision to take ID-laden documentation out of the hospital are both in the same general catch-all of being under scrutiny that Madame Gaddefly is under !! I figured that being on nights would keep me relatively distant from such complete idiocy-WRONG !
