Insubordination!!

Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I'm free at last!!! ...well, almost. Those of you who've worked with me know that I've been asking (rhetorically, of course) for quite some time, "What would it take to get fired?". I began to ask this after watching a co-worker repeatedly "work over" his team-mates by calling in sick 30" before a shift...(or just not showing up for three days in a row...many times..even on holidays..) I asked again when a nurse who could never learn how to give meds was given paid leave. I continued to ask it after a nurse took protected info home....or somewhere...and got it stolen....and when the rumour started that the reason he hadn't provided the victims with the police report info was because he hadn't filed a proper report. I even asked my supervisor once or twice, "What, exactly, would it take to get fired?"

Well now I've found out! It's Insubordination!! That'll do it. Good to know.

So, remember: it doesn't matter what you do, as long as you don't openly defy your supervisor. Wait! let me revise that...open defiance isn't the issue since surely the employee who repeatedly failed to show up for work must have been told to stop it...and he didn't...and that's "defiance". No, it's saying you don't intend to comply right out....That is "insubordination" and that will get you fired!! Thus, those of you who want to stay at the madhouse are free to do whatever you want, but remember to always say that you are now or will be soon, or wish you were or will try to be...compliant...

...regardless of what you're being asked to comply with. In my case, it was those stupid "competencies". Ye gods. I've taken those darned things so many times, I feel like I'll puke (that probably should be "experience an emesis") if I have to do them again...particularly the one about managing the violent acting out patient...which surely we all understand now does not work, is seldom, if ever, used and requires us to throw one another around a room for several hours every year during mock re enactments of patient-to-staff attacks. I'm sorry, but I just don't care for that much physical contact...(and, actually, that very reluctance to grab or be grabbed has done a good job all these years in keeping me out of harms way with violent patients). And I know from talking with assaulted staff, that when your number comes up and you're getting the tar beat out of you, the class material is not what you rely on for salvation.

So anyway, I completed them in the fall/winter of 2005...unhappily, dragging my feet, mumbling and grousing the entire way, but I did 'em - and heaved a sigh of relief. "Maybe I can figure out how to get fired before I have to do 'em again.", I said to myself. But Fate was against me. When JCHAO came to inspect the hospital in..when was it....January, I think...some management staff hadn't completed their competencies...which was an issue, apparently, even though, of course as we all know, management staff very seldom enter the milieu anyway...Even so..to get back to the subject...JCAHO needed to be mollified in some way. HMG (Hospital Management Group) made an executive decision to effect said mollification: the entire staff of the hospital would taken competencies at one time in May/June.

If you're keeping track: this is six full months before I should have to be tortured again...I even blogged about it once..."who's responsible for this inhumae torture???" I blogged.

Well, I stalled and avoided as long as I could; then I just said, straight out, "I'm not doing it". And thats Insubordination! And it really is...there's no point denying that part. Never mind that I think of it, myself, as "resisting idiocy"...it's still insubordination. I see that. I said it myself, at the time.

However!! Praise be! There's a grievance process!! Now, I've had some experience with the "grievance process" here at the madhouse. In fact, I have some left-over issues about how the "grievance process" has worked in several cases. So I see this as an opportunity!

And! I can give you all a blow-by-blow report on how it's all going!! An inside view of a firing!! This should boost readership. I'm excited! I've been having trouble coming up with blog material lately. This should be good!

So, keep reading, fellow bloggers! The Gadde Fly is about to get swatted!

No comments since last post..guess nobody wants to talk about war...No Wait! I lied. There is a new comment on Wish List. Sorry...just no comments on Backwards

Oh, I thought you were going to say a blow-by blow job at this illustrious institution.........O.K. .....I must have read that wrong..........We all know by now....there is no mercy.....no kindness.......no inteligent beings on the planet called the Place where we "heal, put together, salve the soul, reality check, dispense compassion, teach life skills and anger management, and recognizing your symptoms and how to live a healthy lifestyle.............try doing any of these things yourself......role modeling,I think it's called.......and a person could loose their jobs or at least endure quiet torture in any number of forms administrative types dispense for your medicine. Sometimes I think the really terrific person that I think (thought)of as a Real Mench,a real person,a human being becomes for a moment or more that punishing person. But then, I realize it's like selling your soul to the Devil.....that's with a capitol D.....when one moves over to administration........their brains and souls go on vacation......or somewhere darker.....when they hear the jingle in their pockets, money and security win every time over ethics, reality, and sound moral judgement.....the self is lost, the core self no longer exists.......just a puppet mouthing words fed into the back compartment, like that red haired puppet, I cant remember it's name.....yes.......IT'S......that is what some have become.......We fight to keep our souls, ethics, moral judgement, compassion, reality base, core self, creative soul.........Because we know what it looks like to cross over to the other side,it looks a lot like soul death, automation, and despair and negotiating with the devil, not a pretty sight........not to mention there are consequences too.....no, those are't on your paychecks....they are in your bodies, souls and minds,so live it up while you can, because what goes around comes around.....as trite as it might sound.......just wait till it comes to YOUR theater. Its a mean place, as mean as I have ever seen, and what makes it even meaner is the joy administration takes in tracking down, yes like an animal,.......and punishing freedom of speech,choice,thinking,behaving.......oh, yes.except for their own.........Where if their is enough puppethood ingrained.......you are actually Protected......that's with a capitol P..........

I really would be sad to see the author gone from the nutorama. This person, whom I am sure I work with from time to time, really has kept me somewhat sane, in light of so much administrative insanity. As if there weren't enough things for those in administration, and management, and staff development to do. For example, there is a list of noncompliant staff, those who supposedly have not completed the competancies, hanging on the
wall of one of the units. These
are people who have not done, or
maybe not handed in, or who's paperwork was handed in but lost, and are therefore noncompliant. Are they insubordinate, as well? Probably not if those in charge of paperwork just misplaced or lost it, but they probably are if they didn't do the computer HIPPA course that was supposed to be done by the end of May. I know a few staff who absolutely refused to do it related to the fact that it was mandated because a manager caused a HIPPA violation. Did their supervisors call them insubordinate? Are they being repoached? They still haven't done the training. It would be a shame if there were more HIPPA violations, which would probably cost the Fort money, and take up time administrators obviously want to waste on a hard working individual with a priciple to stand on. Wonder what the news would do with this fly if it dropped into their pudding!!!

Please don't give up on the nuthouse just yet! You KNOW you can do those competencies in your sleep! So do them for the clients if you won't do them for yourself. They need you G.F.! Hopefully there will be change at the mad house with the new administrator. However; if he also follows on the path of politics....?? Curious

A show a sham a pretense a hollow appearance a fascade a competentcy. It pays the same as marking a flow board doing a safety check stamping a high risk note and filling out about 2/3's of the paper work at the fort.
but insubordination.
now that does not pay. that is one ego bruising fart in the face of authority that will un-ravel administration if left un-checked.well. glory days Is summer that slow that this mole hill issue is the line that will not be crossed? Validate some twisted fears and legitimize the disdain. OH get a lawyer. Use a tape recorder. Watch your back. Dont use the same path twice, get one of those remote starters for your car and always give some of your food to a supervisor...kidding.

Don't you find it interesting that the head nurse / "acting team leader" that caused the identity theft; is also in the TOP FOUR of the 30 people who interviewed for the team leader positions that are open? Instead of "follow the leader" this mad house has turned into "beam me up Scottie"! Curious

If insubordination is their focus, they should be ashamed of themselves. What about the sheer stupidity of promoting a manager who has possibly caused severe damage to both his staff and some patients by losing their social security numbers; what about the spouse of an administrator who just takes the day off when census is low on his unit; what forgetting to staff a unit when administration makes changes in personnel; what about the employee who quits, does not turn in keys, comes back saying he didn't quit, continues to work, then repeats the scenario; what about the nurse, in a position of authority
who supposedly has a record, and did not put that on the orginal app; what about the fire alarm on a kids unit that was not responded to by anyone, but instead, turned off by the operator one night? What about just doing a job, whether it is administration, milieu, or facilities the right way the first time and not having to do, then, such a good joy thereafter of covering up all the problems that stem from doing the joy so poorly the second time? The muck and mire is so prevasive at the madhouse, that I am surprized that insubordination is seen as a high priority. I would have figured patient care and safety for all was a priority. Then again, some of those admin people get some almost perverse satisfaction in going after certain employees. Then again, some of us employees get some real perverse satisfaction watching the admin people scramble and plan coverup, just so that we staffers can be amazed at how lame a job they did!!!

Is the "What if" blogger suggesting that the madhouse could be compared to Watergate, only on a more minor mental way. Would the label Crazygate, be appropriate then? I know this is a stretch, but think about it, we have coverup, deep throat escapades, and lackies willing to breach privacy, confidentiality and moral ethics to get what they want. Only in the case of Crazygate, the there won't be any impeachments, instead, some of the key crazies in administrative positions are probably going to get promoted. Hence the suggestion that this is a mental way of viewing the antics at the madhouse!

This thought isn't about insubordination, just rotten work ethics. How do you suppose an employee who recently got his hands slapped for causing a major ruckus with a HIPPA violation, gets considered for a position that requires even more responsibility and consideration? Just a thought, but could said employee actually have an Ace to play? I wonder if way back when, when this guy got pressured to get his work done, he sought help from persons higher up the ladder, and maybe even got approval to take work home. I bet he didn't get the OK to leave said important patient and employee information in his car, unmonitored, but was taking work home an option cleared through administration? And if it was, why didn't the manager say so, diffuse the heat a bit? Maybe he was ENCOURAGED not to. Maybe he was promised the pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow. All he would have to do is cross over, QUIETLY. Surely this control megalomaniac can withstand a little discomfort, if later some serious comfort came his way. The Dept of Health and Human Services had a suggestion that was obliously ignored, since this manager still works at the madhouse. But who came to the rescue and WHY? My guess, someone with power, someone who has made poor decisions in the past, someone's who's rep couldn't stand another dink, said to this manager, "work at home, no problem". I wonder if the director's boss thinks it is OK to promote an already questionable manager, based on the fact that he can play the same game well enough to smooze with the other less than reputable administrators. Alas, all this stuff should be over and done with soon, and people can begin to concentrate, again, on their work with the patients. Because surely, after the promotions are decided, and those who lost private idenifying information took the approrpriate measures to protect themselves, what else could happen, since that's all that was stolen, right?
Or was there more on this manager's computer?????????????????
