It's summer...almost...and blogging seems to have fallen down a ways on my priority list. But, gosh darn it! Things have been happening our there at the Madhouse that have reached even my ears.
The announcement last week that there will be an audit of the two facilities was so delightful! I'd written a request for one last fall...then gotten a call from Sally herself this spring...and apparently I wasn't the only one to ask! When we spoke on the phone, her biggest concern seemed to be the fact that DYC youth are being treated with non-adjudicated youth on the same units...I hope when they get there, they also look at the practice of providing treatment for a patient with MRSA in the general population on an adult unit...with no separate bathroom...no separate anything, sounds like.
Speaking of MRSA, a co-worker at my new job came to me to ask about "Area 2"...he thought it might be appropriate for a patient on his caseload. "Area 2?" I said....and then it dawned on me that he was asking about the behavior mod team. Area 2 is a great name for it, don't you think?...the way it evokes thoughts of mystery, aliens and cover ups..."This guy needs the treatment in Area 2".... I advised him to hold off until after the audit.
And the changes in management! Keith's boss, Steve, retiring, I hear? And the "Assistant Director, too"...and - very exciting - the minimalist Director of Nursing going to what sounds like a much more appropriate job. People above him, people below him...what about Keith himself? Isn't he inspired to go to greener pastures, too??? They're all getting out before the audit...he'll be all by himself for that if he doesn't get a move on. Come on, Keith! For the good of the place! For your own good! Fly! Be Free!!

It is very difficult not to be very distraught about a team where the leadership is not in harmony, and in fact quite the opposite, where there is antipathy between the two who are entrusted with the very safety, integrety, trust, and supporting the mission and welfare of the patients and staff. The amazeing grandiosity and narrcisism with which these two sad individuals are consumed puts at risk on a daily basis the sacred mission given to us to care for and protect the vulnerable as well as those serving them.
Even more alarming is the fact that this dangerous and corrodeing situation has been going on for a very long time and is common knowledge throughout the hospital and all administration and staff. The fact that multitudes of staff have fled this team should have raised a red flag and did,but to no avail. The feedback given by the staff on this team is not elicited, listened to or heeded and indeed is reframed and distorted and rewritten and repressed by the very individuals to whom it would benefit......the managers.....who are impervious to the past critical events except as they affect their reputation and salary and investigation..........there will be more "shucking and jiveing" until they get all the "paperwork" to match their version of"the events', even at the risk of changeing the information and facts.........this is just a repeat of what has gone on in the management of this team for the last few years.....without any redress from anyone.......hello, is or has there been anyone out there watching all this????.....the rest of us have been watching and continue to witness every single day the shenanigans...........well,......they might be called shenanigans were it not for the loss of a life and the rape of another which I should think would warrant an intervention into the sick culture of whats left of this tattered team, this tramatized team, this especially conflicted and competitive management duo which is insidiously destroying the morale and fiber of the team.I will end on a very positive note, the only one I have heard lately..........a certain wonderful, talented and perceptive person is standing in for the departed director of nursing,I might add that I can feel the fresh air flowing already even in the throes of the recent events.......this person is most capable and has the moral fiber and integrity to speak truth and address issues, where no other has tread. Thank you for your time and dedication and believe me we notice, news travels fast around here..........we notice immediately when someone has come among us with a clear heart and a sound mind.........remember we are trained to pick up the obvious and the subtle and the hidden and the unseen.........we are here and we see..........we see everything played out,so we easily recognize the justice and there is not one person I have ever talked with at Ft. Logan who cant identify the personality disorders, and the destructive and poisonous individuals on each team..............Luckily, there are enough wonderful, kind, healthy and inteligent, organized, fair and concious individuals to keep the place creeping along and nurture those of us who despair when one of ours is crushed under some demented and sick member of team management who should have been let go long ago and far away,
Amen.................
I understand that on the same day that the rape happened on the above mentioned team, that a female patient had sex with TWO male patients in the male bathroom, and that it was one of these male patients who later that night raped the deaf female patient. Enough said.I am hopeing more is said. And since this is upsetting to the entire support staff,I am wanting this processed and talked about on each team in a meaningful way.Why is it that we dont process anything anymore,is it too scary to hear feelings here. Isnt that how meaningful change comes about in a community? And also how a community supports it's own. Why cant we use the same principals we espouse for our patients,is this such a strange and foreign concept,I am sure C-SEAP must provide services for just these sorts of situations to groups of State employees. Are we all just hanging on by our fingernails in a survival mode,I guess so. To bad we cant use this situation to create a more viable and vibrant system for our front line workers, they desparately need an infusion of real relief and regeneration derived from a good talk fest, dump off some of the toxic load from the tension and silence and controlled survalance of the system in crisis.
The new acting DON is a Ft. Logan alumni. She also has a history with PSL that involved dysfunction. The honeymoon is not over and may not be for some time....then, watchout!
I thought I read that audits were requested for both madhouses, one by the OBHH director herself.
Does that mean that the audits will really happen?
Perhaps calls to the members of the Legislative Audit Committee will light something?
Can you see it?
"a certain wonderful, talented and perceptive person standing in for the departed director of nursing" Who are you kidding. These "wonderful people are just as corrupt as the people they are "exposing". You need to see the forest for the trees anonymous! I guess you haven't been manipulated by these "woderful" people lately eh? They are in control of the Madhouse. And the ship just sinks deeper and deeper. Our "fearless leader is a lame duck administrator with no power any more. Nothing short of a complete overhaul is going to change anything at the Madhouse! Just look at the team you mention. How can we condone the "leadership's" atrocities in thier positions and continue to call it a team, our hospital a "safe" place for patients or staff? Get real! Open your eyes!
