Everyone Needs To Help

So now we hear the truth. Administration has not squandered $400,000, but $700,000 and we are the one's that are going to pay for it.

Keith and Co. have now implemented the "Together We Can Do It" plan for the rest of the fiscal year. It sounds more like it is up to the line staff to cover for some very poor judgments on administration's behalf. Cost containment I believe they call it.

They are putting it to us that by following the "plan" we won't be cost contained and the hospital won't fold before July 1. Seems to me if there were some better planning done earlier in the year we wouldn't be in this predicament.

They talk about sending people home if the unit is quiet and we are "overstaffed". How about sending home some of the social workers and administration too. Shouldn't the burden of saving the hospital be shared? Why should administration be spared?

We are being told that no "excessive spending" is to be done and that we are cutting costs to the bone. Seems to me we've been doing this for quite a while now.

They have suggested through a memo that if we have concerns about safety issues etc. that we can call the Joint Commission, but should talk to our supervisors first. You should only do this if you want to be the next one out the door, as they don't need anyone messing with their "plan".

When is administration going to take responsibility for what they have done, or not done with the place and help get things back in order. We are already burned out, thus the sick calls that are, as they say, partially to blame for the budget crunch.

Let's face it, administration got us in this mess and they need to get us out in a manner that is viable to everyone, not just administration.

Can't administration do anything more than make up plans that someone else gets to carry out? Let's do it together. Everytime a line staff goes home, an administrator goes home.

Hmmmm....now it is $700,000 in the hole. I wonder if there will be an investigation here. The guv has to have known about this. The heck with the smoke and mirrors solution, what about accountability. Ideally, the results of an investigation should help in forming a solution. This is devastating. Change is seriously needed. The patients will lose out most of all. What a sad day in the ol forts history.

I didn't see any of the RNs decline their compression pay increase.($650,000) Administration finally agreed to raise nurses salaries last year and thought they could fund it but unfortunately due to increased outside medical costs and increased staff costs for 1:1, they weren't able to. At least they aren't closing units or laying people off. Do you really think that line staff will be sent home due to overstaffing? Does that really ever happen?

Dear Gov , cut the Team leader position, save major bucks and live happily ever after.. Make the social workers take on 2 teams and have to work. And you really only need 2 PHD's for the whole place.... You can save some $$$$. Get smart and save...

I find it interesting that line staff are usually to blame for any predicament administration get's us in to. When will administration take some responsibility here?

Can someone tell me the BEST way to contact the Gov & wife. Start documenting the daily dysfunctions and create a paper trail. Be your own administrator. "If you don't document it it didn't happen!"

Yes, they reaaly do send staff home. Ask those who were asked to take comp time instead of working their full shifts on Sunday.

Comp time...At least they had comp time to use. Ask around. Hospitals normally send workers home w/o pay if the census is low enough.

It's the de humaninization of staff, patients, process, bodies, needs, health, empowerment, space, means, food, nutrition, hope, environment, andcreativity.

It's mice, rats, bats, broken down facilities, denaturized food, claustraphobic overheated spaces, compressed time, dirt, bad air, sick water, minimal contact physically to have through evaluations and interventions, hand cuffed with "low level interventions"which will create more violence, too many bodies needing more from beaten down staff, beaten down by the sick and manipulative language used by the system created for the very purpose of creating an inhospitable environment.........more compliant victims, fear, anger, overworked, overstressed,
obedient, smiling victims, all grist for the mill.
Keep smiling.

When staff work extra hours to help out and think they will be paid OT, is it ethical and legal to be told that the "comp" time won't be converted to OT pay? Do you think that some of us have counted on that money to live? Who's fault is it that people are working over 40 hours? The people called upon to help out or the administrators scheduling such people????

This shows us that we do need a union....

At what point do the line staff say enough is enough. I suggest line staff organize amongst themselves and figure out what they`re top 5 needs are or so and take it over Keith. What would HMG do if we had a mass sick in or maybe we all show up at the capital demanding to talk to people? I hear the problems, we need to find solutions before another ridiculous rule they all decide on gets some poor chap hurt. The blog is great, but.... more is needed obvously. Food for thought. Sure hope the union thing passes- maybe later down the road demand better pay, but sure would suffice if there was a changing of all the guards. Keith hiring a new assistant huh? I hear that some units do not have a lot of supplies to get by with-they are barely making it. True to form Keith and administration, true to form. The emperor truly has no clothes. Those poor, poor patients.

Why is it that humans inflict such pain on each other, and we are all trying to be in a happier work enviroment. Administration has one view, and the line staff another. What happened to the focus on the care of others. Keeping a aggrement does build trust, but no one wants to lose their jobs either. The now is the only moment we have.....Action arises out of the allignment of what is, and then everyone complains. Your action is to enhance yourself, and to make yourself right. The other human will react in order to diminish their risk of self. And the other will defend the diminishment of the self, because that is what the ego tends to do, and then the other will come right back to you to defend their non reality.

Instead of worrying, finding fault and complaining, we need to take action! On Wednesday, April 9 Colorado WINS is holding meetings at three separate times during the day at the Fort. Everyone should make plans to be there, even if you have to come in off-shift. This is really important! We need this Partnership that Governor Ritter has indicated he wants. Partnerships have been proven in other states to save the state money and to improve working conditions.

We have more power than we think we have! We can organize a letter-writing campaign, we can have a peaceful demonstration. We can have solidarity. We are capable of having our voices heard, but only if we will stop complaining and DO SOMETHING!

When I was a child my father would go down in the basement and make beautiful furniture in his work shop. Making quite a mess in the process. Then he would approach me and say, "We need to clean up this mess." Meaning I was to clean up his mess. Sound familiar?

tsk,tsk,tsk,tsk,...no more "complaining" now boys and girls. Tidy up now. We can do it.Let's all get ready.O.K. ready? one,two three,shout......We Can Do It..........now, See, doesnt that feel better, now turn to your neighbor and smile and say "good job neighbor",

Ever feel like the blog has been co-opted,ever wonder by who?Very clever approach,a little more sophisticated then we are used to here, definitely some new blood that's been out and around.
The crepe paper on our unit got wet and the dye dripped color all over a whole drawer of hospital forms, which subsequently got thrown out sureptitiously.....now that's not cost saving.
Oh,by the way,did they ever catch that rat drinking from the milk machine?
