Where's HMG?

So where is the help HMG said they would provide to help cover the units. I for one have not seen one member of the HMG on any unit helping out. Seems it was all talk and no walk.

This does not help the fact that assaults are escalating at an alarming rate and seclusion and restraints are on the rise too. Could there be correlation? I think so.

Let's face it people are burned out and sick and tired of picking up after administration's mistakes. It doesn't appear that they are doing anything out of the ordinary to help us out on the line. This in turn is producing increases in sick calls because we've had it.

Again my fear is that HMG will decide that since we can do with less and it will remain that way after the new fiscal year kicks in. It will be interesting to see if this comes to fruition.

This "hospital" has become a very unsafe place to work due to understaffing and HMG's continuing demands that we keep seclusion/restraints at a minimum. This could only be accomplished with increased staffing as there are just too few staff to cover everything happening during a shift.

All this boils down to the safety issue again. How can they (HMG) think that this "hospital" is a safe environment and continue not to help us out. Guess it's up to you and me folks. As it always has been.

Unless I missed something,it seems mental health finished last in the ol budget ,yet the guv seems satisfied heh? Just how much does he care about the Fort and mental health? Head blogger is right-smells like HMG just might see, despite reality to run the units as is.The writing is on the wall. Not to sound pessimistic but the guv is out as an option. If he cared, he would of visited units soon after his inaugriation, not just his wife. The Fort is in real trouble.

Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems I heard @ one time there needed to be a minimum of staff per unit to recieve funding from either medicare or medicaid or both. If staffing requirements were not met there was no reimbursement.

Hey there is a huge lunch that the Guv's wife will be at for Mental Health Thur the 22 maybe a group of us should go down and talk with her before or after..Or pickit or something....????

Not to worry!!! The Fort may be swamped in assaults and seclusions BUT HMG has the important issues covered. As in brand new containers to keep the spoons, forks, napkins, etc. covered. After all, there are priorities.

I want to know what happened to the
"no more than 50% pool" rule. Some units are 100% pool, and more common is 2 pool staff with 1 regular staff. It is very hard and time consuming, and unsafe.

When I started, a loooong time ago, I was told the Fort Logan Motto: "Saftey Last." I have had a number of administrators tell me that it's my job (note that's MY job not HMG's) to get hit. Here is a rule of thumb for adminstration. NEVER ask someone to do something you would not feel safe doing yourself.

The 50% staffing came down after we did not do well with a JACO visit. So I guess it will take another bad visit to get things to improve...

Seems administration is committed more to making staff do the patient idientifier bit than they are about staffing the units adequetly. Perhaps when JCHO comes people will take advantage of their presence and speak out. Seems like a prime opportunity to let the surveyors know whats happening on the units. Either folks will speak up, or continue to say what they are coached and encouraged to say to these surveyors. If people choose the ladder, obvously things will remain the same. Just food for thought.

The prior post, just laugh and do your job to the best of your ability. Just make sure you are treating both old and new staff with kindness. It is not their fault when they are floated and just there to help you out. As far as HMG treat them like a D.D. patient with good intentions, but stupidity in reality based decision making. Just be glad we don’t have to change their diapers! Yet

Update on the rat drinking from the milk dispenser.

It was found that he holds an active R.N. license in Bangladesh. He was promptly hired to the newly created R.N. 4 position Director of Linens. In addition, he will take on the duties of creating new refrigerator temperature check forms and will also begin teaching CPR by 2009.

Welcome the newest member of HMG!

HI,
There is a telephone number that was given to you for the Joint Commission.........with the invitation to call with your disturbing information that affects the safety of the patients and staff,or compromises the integrity of care and the possibility of delivering good care.
Say for instance, having 13 hospital shared personnel staff our units IN ONE WEEKEND.
So believing empty memos that have no substance behind them is foolhearty and pointless..........take an action that is meaningful, and has a little impact, venting on this blog has no muscle, and is just that..........venting............venting is O.K.........is that all we want??............I mean , arent we already dealing with ineffectual leadership.......Is this the Bush administration or what. I guess so.
Call that number.......I will post it.

Sounds the assaultive team is pretty bad off. Leaders, behind the NS, but no leadership or accountability. Staff and patient assaults keep rolling in. Just another example of this corrupt hospital shitting on the little guys. Who cares who gets hurt as long as the $$$$$is rolling in and the hospital continues to receive rave reviews and pass their fluffy reviews. DON seems too busy strong arming the nurses instead of paying attention to the problems that need fixin. Oh woe is this place. Most importantly, if the staff feel discounted here, imagine how these poor patients must feel!!!!!Would people knowing how this place is run send your family here! No thanks! THe line staff do great stuff here. Its the idiots who run everything else Im scared of!
