I was surprised to see, when I finally wandered over here, that no one from the Madhouse has commented on the impending closure of units out there. I'm hearing Geriatrics, Adolescents, and Childrens. Is that right? How many jobs is that?
And where will the patients go?
And the patients who come along later...where will they go?
The immediate impact of the States' budget in my world will be the loss of Aid to the Needy and Disabled...the $200 a month that is the entire income for a lot of people I know.
I keep trying to imagine what those people will do.
What would I do, if my entire income evaporated?
Steal, I guess.
The unfolding of the flower whose bud was sub prime mortgages, fertilized by mortgage backed securities, watered by greed. In full bloom it smothers all the little people living beneath the petals.
Anyhow. Would love to read about the Madhouse...anybody? anybody?

Yes,yes I, we are here.I suspect that the few folks who were using the blog are still reeling from the bureaucratic screw ups and, now, mop up at the expense of those who can least afford it. PLEASE COME TO THE RALLY ON SEPT 8 at the West side of the State Capitol building to make a statement that there ARE ways to reap revenue other than to close essential services. It will be a welcome opportunity to mix with CO WINS and other union members as well as non-members from various departments of State employment and citizenry.
The time for the Sept 8 rally is 12-1 PM. See you there. Nothing will change if you do not take action.
Yes dear Gadde Fly the Fort is slowly fading into the past. Not only are the three units you talked about are closing, but they are saying Mountain Star will close come July. If you ask me this is just a way to slowly do away with the Fort all together.
People are in panic mode and I'm sure the clients can feel our angst and fear. How therapeutic can that be?
Supposedly (according to HR and Administration) the clients will be dispersed to the community who I'm sure is waiting for them with open arms. Can you believe that Channel 9 news was actually told that the children from the Children's Unit would have places because their parent have insurance!? Correct me if I'm wrong but, I've always been under the assumption that we take in the patients that don't have insurance.
This whole movement is half cocked and the people that are going to pay the most are the patients that we are leaving out in the cold. As one parent said this is a "moral issue" not a monetary one and a crying shame! Here here!
Everything the hospital is doing is just painful to the families, patients and staff. It is the begining of the end.
Seems as if things keep getting worse. Team leaders demoted, bumps all over. Really cut throat environment. All the while, that fat cat president of the Fort doesnt bat an eye. Why keep using Hospital shared Services? Among many other issues, this seems to be a verySTUPID way to run a hospital. Or a deliberate plan to close the fort. Cmon- unit closures? We all know these patients will not be taken in by the mental health centers-that is just lip service. I pray for all those souls who will be displaced. I pray more for those souls who mad that decision. Is there no morality or concience left out there? In the meantime, the admin hallway on the second floor is sitting pretty as can be-untouched by all this chaos. REALLY! Cmon! For if we are going to lose our jobs anyway, why not unite, spread the truth and raise hell? Must we go quitely into the night! Start talking to your coworkers, call 9news, letters to the editor. IF you wont do it for yourself or your coworkers you work side by side with and would risk your life for, do it for the very patients we serve! You line staff owe that to yourselves! You owe management nothing- you owe your coworkers and the patients everything!Lets work together to stop this grave injustice. As long as management has us worried about losing our jobs and bickering amongst ourselves, it takes the heat and focus off of them and their misgivings. WAKE UP AND REALIZE THIS. MAKE A CHOICE NOT TO PLAY ALONG! IN THE MEANTIME, MGT HAS EVERYONE RIGHT WHERE THEY WANT THEM.
HI there.....voices from RFL. "Madhouse Under Seige" also sounds like the state of our government right now...and our culture, for that matter. Gee, do you think we might have well-staffed hospitals if we didn't have these damn endless, criminal wars all the time..with a military budget 2 and 1/2 times THE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED? With 8 to 900 military bases around the world?? Never see that info. in the paper, do we? Question is, what do we do? Seems that our "democracy" is gone no matter whether Reps. or Dems. in charge---our once prized, and now "predatory" capitalism (devoid of any conscience) and lobbyists have our Prez and Congress by the " campaign finance" cojones!!
THIS TO ME, SEEMS TO BE THE CRUX OF THE ISSUE. AS LONG AS OUR GOVT. AND CULTURE ARE AS DYSFUNCTIONAL AS WE SEEM TO BE -- what do we do to try and wrestle a semblance of impact on the process we still have left? I recommend two incredible and uplifting films...The Singing Revolution (about how Estonians took back their country) and Pray the Devil Back to Hell, about women in Liberia who got sick of the insane violence and lack of leadership--how they put a stop to it and even ended up getting rid of their president..and elected a woman to take his place. It was a real indictment of violence (which our country seems quite comfortable with) and an indictment of men, in particular, in leadership who would do nothing about it. INSPIRING FILMS....Liberian film being used around the world now to inspire people to action.
Yea!!! You go, Wynne!!! that's the spirit! And now the Supreme Court appears to be poised to rule that corporations have the exact same rights as a citizen does - and can therefore contribute at will (free speech, you know) to political campaigns.......WTF??!!
Thanks for the movie tips - I'll order 'em on my Netflix...soon as I'm strong enough to endure the consequences of the actions they might inspire.....
Anyhow....happy to see everybody bloggin'
